FOR THE PROMOTION AND THE DEFENSE OF DEMOCRATIC VALUES

A Greeting:

We live in a world subject to all sorts of tensions, political, economic or social, among others.

Our societies are being shaken every day for a series of events that test the strength of their democratic beliefs, values ​​and trust in democratic institutions for governing.

They are not easy times for the economy or policy that include the national and the European Union surroundings, just limit to the regional space and the common political project in which we are more directly integrated.

The social conquests, the progress of the welfare state and the rule of law, among others, are tested and even threatened.

At least this is the picture presented to us by the media and is embodied in the initiatives of governments.

Valsain Foundation has been working since its establishment in promoting awareness and defense of democratic values ​​within our society and in Europe as an essential bulwark in front of the dangers to our democracy, respect for human rights and freedoms.

Now we begin a new stage in the activity of the Foundation, we want to channel through its Study Center, pushing the actions of the European Institute for Mediation and Public Ethics (IEMEP) and the European Observatory of Asylum (OEDA) whose characteristics and work programs can check and know through this page.

Finally, in January of 2012 we intend to put online the magazine "The value of democracy" as a plural and open forum for those who want to collaborate in the vital debate about the importance of values ​​in a democratic society.

We look forward to further progress in this task and we encourage you to join it.
